Artist:  CASEY HAYES

 CD Release:  The Iron Year

Casey Hayes is here to give AAA Pop/Rock an adrenalized shot to the arm with his latest release THE IRON YEAR (2006, Perennial Records).  The Lafayette, Louisiana based singer/songwriter's highly anticipated follow up to THE DANCER OF WORDS is a "deeper, more aggressive (album) that penetrates the soul," claims Hayes.  His self-proclaimed mission is to bring healing into people's lives through his music.

While Hayes deals with many similar themes as he did on his previous release, one thing different about THE IRON YEAR relates to the songwriter's approach to recording the album.  "I definitely took chances... recording the album by incorporating newer sounds:  edgier vocals, compressed piano, and experimental guitar noises," Hayes says.  Hayes pulls out all of the stops, revealing even more facets of his boundless musical creativity.

As heard in the relentless sonic avalanche of the first track, "Pond," which opens the album with a huge dose of rock swagger, and thanks to the ferocious piano and acoustic guitar rhythms on the radio friendly tunes, "Change," and the emotionally charged, "Nothing Gold Can Stay," we are reminded of life's ephemeral makeup; however, this album's primary focus testifies to the unconquerable nature of the human spirit.

A clever balance is set forth between swift rattling rock and roll, and bittersweet piano-driven numbers, such as, "My White Whale," "Valediction," and "Where Do We Go From Here?" which are poised to inspire a resurgence of raised Bic lighters in clubs across the country. THE IRON YEAR pays homage to the notion that life can be a difficult journey, often rife with setbacks; but, in the end, it is the getting back up which most matters.

Indeed, THE IRON YEAR gives a major reality check to many of the problems we all face in our daily lives, takes them head on, and offers a semblance of hope during turbulent modern times:  This is "feel good" music about "feel bad" things.
